Math Teacher Application

Cristo Rey Richmond High School is a Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience, students graduate ready to succeed in college and in life. Cristo Rey Richmond High School will soon be a part of the largest network of high schools in the country that exclusively serve families of limited economic means.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree (REQUIRED)
  • Possession of a valid Virginia teaching license (REQUIRED)
  • Two years of urban teaching experience (preferred)
  • Bilingual (Preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES (INSTRUCTIONAL)

  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment
  • Plan rigorous lessons aligned to the prescribed standards
  • Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners
  • Adhere to a scope and sequence
  • Implement feedback from administrators and instructional leaders regarding lesson plan design and/or implementation
  • Support instruction with school-wide supplemental programs
  • Maintain grade books and meet grade reporting deadlines
  • Communicate with families regarding student academics and behavior
  • Utilize planning periods for the advancement of student academics
  • Tutor students in need of remediation

Content-Specific Requirements

Mathematics

  • Teaches courses in mathematics to secondary students utilizing core curriculum and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content as approved by the administration or school board
  • Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing “discovery” and laboratory learning methods
  • Demonstrates mathematical concepts using models, relevant technology and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids
  • Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Designs learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world
  • Communicates with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and school counselors to discuss individual student progress
