Cristo Rey Richmond Hires Former Cristo Rey New York Student

In 2009 a young Gabriel Obregon started his journey as a student at Cristo Rey New York High School. At just 14 years old, Gabe had the opportunity to work once a week with big companies in New York City through Cristo Rey's unique Corporate Work Study Program. Corporate Work Study Program. By the time he graduated high school in 2013, Gabe had three years of experience working in financial services with MarketAxess and Centerbridge Partners and a year of working with the law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP.
After high school, Gabe enrolled at the University of Richmond and graduated in 2018 with a BA in the Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Law (PPEL) program. Through the Graduate Support Program at Cristo Rey New York, Gabe became aware of a group of individuals looking to start a Cristo Rey school in his college town of Richmond. While still a student at the University of Richmond, he attended as many events as he could on behalf of Cristo Rey to share his story and more importantly emphasize the tremendous value a Cristo Rey school could bring to this community. At that time, he never imagined he would one day be working for Cristo Rey, but in December of 2018 Gabe was hired as the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff for Cristo Rey Richmond.
In this role he will support President Pete McCourt and the rest of the staff with spreading the values and objectives of Cristo Rey Richmond High School with the greater Richmond community. His personal insights and knowledge of the Cristo Rey model will allow him to create strong relationships with donors, local community leaders, parents, and most importantly, students.
We are thrilled to have a former Cristo Rey student on our staff to give us perspective and insight into our future student lives. Welcome to the team Gabe!
