Staff Spotlight: Coach Churchwell
Cristo Rey Richmond would not be able to educate young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose and service without our dedicated and passionate faculty & staff. In an effort to recognize our educators, we will begin a series of Faculty & Staff Spotlights!
Q: Where are you originally from?
A: South Bend, IN
Q: What was your favorite subject in high school? And why?
A: Math & PE. They both came easy to me and I enjoyed both subjects. I had really good, knowledgeable and caring teachers.
Q: Where did you go to college? And, what did you study there?
A: I studied Business-Finance at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at CRR?
A: I really like and respect everyone I work with. I love the connections with our scholars. I like the challenges we face as a school and the fact that we are willing to overcome these challenges together.
Q: What does the “Cristo Rey Way” mean to you??
A: It means being selfless and putting others first. It means meeting challenges head on and figuring out how to overcome the challenges. It means having a community, a family in your corner who will be there for you to lift you up.
Q: What is your favorite memory at CRR so far?
A: The feedback from students as they developed, implemented and modified their own workout plans. The critical thinking they demonstrated during this process was awesome!
Q: Who is your biggest mentor and/or inspires you? Why? A:My biggest mentor is my Pops. Honestly, I find inspiration in many ways and from many people. If I had to narrow it down, my biggest inspiration comes from my students.
Q: What advice do you have for CRR students as they continue to focus on getting to and through college?
A: Work hard and smart, and trust in the hard work you are putting in. Lean on one another and the resources you have all around you within your Cristo Rey Richmond and national family.
